Swim and Dive Program
The Varsity Swim Team includes the swimmers on our competitive team and is open to children 6 years old to 18 years. Over 120 children participate in our swim teams each year.
Varsity Swim Team evaluations will be held on Tuesday, May 31st. Swimmers new to St. Albans or swimmers wishing to move from our 2021 mini team to varsity MUST be at evaluations. Sign up here. Returning varsity swimmers do not need to attend evaluations.
Varsity Practice Schedule:
- Wednesday, June 1 through Friday, June 17 (Pre-season)
- 10 & Under: Monday – Friday – 4:15 – 5:00 PM
- 11 & Up: Monday – Friday – 5:00 – 6:00 PM
- Monday, June 20 – Varsity Regular Season practices begin
- 11 & Older: Monday – Friday – 8:45 – 10:00 AM
- 10 & Under: Monday – Friday – 10:00 – 11:00 AM
MINI SWIM TEAM
The Mini Swim Team includes children 8 and under who do not have the skills necessary to compete on the Varsity Swim Team. Mini Team is a developmental program with an emphasis on stroke mechanics. Mini Team is for swimmers who are proficient in both freestyle (side breathing, face in the pool) and backstroke (able to stay afloat while moving arms).
Mini Team evaluations will be held on Monday, June 6th at 4:15 PM
Practice schedule – Monday, June 20 through Thursday, July 21
- Monday – Thursday – 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM
The mini team will have one intrasquad meet at the end of the season
Dive Team is open to children 6 years to 18 years old and has more than 20 participants each year. This is a great chance to learn the fundamentals of diving in a safe and supportive environment. If your child does wish to participate in the competitive diving meets, they are required to attend practices and be able to perform the minimum diving requirements for each meet.
Divers will be split into 3 practice groups:
- Group A – Advanced: previously competed in dive meets
- Group B – Beginner: age 9 & older
- Group C – Beginner: age 8 & under
Dive Team Preseason begins Saturday, June 4th.
- June 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th – Preseason practices are both Saturday and Sunday
- Group A: 12:00-1:00 PM
- Group B: 1:00-1:30 PM
- Group C: 1:30 – 2:00 PM
- Monday – Friday, June 20th – July 22nd (Regular Season)
- Group A: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Group B: 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM
- Group C: 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM
HEAD SWIM COACH
Alison grew up in Drexel Hill and swam for the Lansdowne YMCA and Aronimink Swim Club. She also swam at Upper Darby High School and La Salle University, where she graduated with a degree in biology. She completed her biology teaching certification at Eastern University in 2021 and is now teaching at Upper Darby High School.
ASSISTANT SWIM COACHES
Coach Svetlana has worked with Age Group, High School, and National Level Swimmers for over 35 years. She has been coaching for over 21 years at St. Albans. As part of the St. Albans Championship Swim Team, she focuses on team comradery, competition, and fun. Her philosophy is to build a foundation on understanding and executing swimming fundamentals, which leads to continuous growth as her swimmers develop. Not only is Svetlana active in coaching, but she also provides swim lessons to children and adults of all ages and abilities. Additionally, Svetlana has been coaching and teaching at Suburban Seahawks Club (SSC) since 2000. She has developed a learn-to-swim program and has mentored State Champions and National Qualifiers.
As a competitive swimmer, Svetlana swam at the national level in Bulgaria. She participated in international competitions including the 1982 World Championships (monofin) in Moscow, USSR. Coach Svetlana holds a Master of Science in Physical Education from The National Sports Academy of Bulgaria.
Jack has been swimming competitively for the majority of his life. A former St. Albans swimmer, he graduated from Radnor High School in 2021 where he holds two school records and served as team captain. He currently attends Middlebury College where he studies political science and is a member of the swim team.
Kaitlyn is a student-athlete in Radnor High School’s Class of 2022, where she swam competitively for all four years. She currently works as a lifeguard at both Suburban Swim Club and a newly appointed assistant manager at St. Albans. Kaitlyn will be attending the University of Pittsburgh in the fall where she will be pursuing pre-med.
HEAD DIVE COACH
Alyssa Pagani DeVincenzo
Alyssa has coached teams for Aronimink Golf Club and Rose Tree Woods. She is a former competitive swimmer and diver for Marple Newtown High School and Rose Tree Woods Swim Club. Alyssa is a speech-language pathologist at AIM Academy, where she also coaches and helped establish the school’s swim program.
